About the Falmouth Area

The town of Falmouth is home to Cornwall’s maritime heritage and is famous for its three main sandy beaches of Gyllyngvase, Swanpool and Maenporth which all have ample parking and good catering facilities.   The Ships & Castles Leisure Centre on Pendennis Headland has a wave machine and a rapid river run as well as fitness facilities should you feel the need for exercise whilst on holiday!

There are plenty of opportunities to get out on the water whether it’s a boat trip around the harbour or across the bay to St Mawes or, for the more adventurous, sailing around the Fal Estuary and Carrick Roads.

In town you can visit the acclaimed National Maritime Museum (www.nmmc.co.uk) and discover Falmouth’s nautical history with many hands-on experiences to enjoy.  There’s Pendennis Castle,  which was built by Henry VIII as a defence against the French, with superb views over to St Mawes and the Lizard Peninsula.

In the heart of town, you can wander through the bustling streets of Falmouth which offers a wide variety of shops (both national outlets and individually owned), cafes, bars, restaurants and traditional pubs overlooking the harbour.

There are plenty of opportunities to stop and enjoy a cream tea or, of course, a famous Cornish pasty!
